THE SPIRIT of Thomas John McGlynn returned to his CREATOR two months shy of 94 years 2/25/1931 - 12/22/2024. Tom lived at 158 Oriole Ave., Pawtucket, RI. Reunited with his parents John and Mildred (Williamson) McGlynn, his brother Donald Roger McGlynn 12/14/1932 - 3/11/2023, 90 years of Wichita Falls, Texas, his niece Lauren Marie McGlynn 3/3/1986 - 7/9/2018, 32 years of McLeansville, NC. Together in PARADISE, ALIVE IN JESUS CHRIST

Tommy joined the US Marine Corps in 1947. Entered boot camp at Paris Island, SC, Second Marine Division, Platoon 191. Fought on the front lines in the Korean War. Was wounded by a mortor shell during an ambush near the Chosin Reservoir. Woke up in Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. Was awarded the Purple Heart Medal of Honor. And was Honorably discharged, Rank Sergeant on August 1, 1952.

Tommy was very close with his brother Don, who preceded him a year earlier. Don was a member of the US Marines Reserve 155th Howitzer Battalion, Prov., before enlisting in the Navy 1952. Received the highest Navy enlisted rank of Master Chief in 1968 and was Senior Chief meteorologist in the Navy until he retired to civilian life with his wife Esta Veda (Heath) McGlynn 4/15/1935 of Wichita Falls, Texas. Their daughters Cinthia, Donna and Patricia and their children and grandchildren. Both brothers patriotically and bravely served their GOD and country proudly.

When Tom returned home to civilian life, a war hero. Tom had his first son, David Paul McGlynn 3/13/1954 of Central Point, Oregon. He had two sons, Troy Chris and Derek Jason. Toms second son, James Oliver McGlynn 12/3/1958 of McLeansville, NC, had a son, Kevin Ryan and a daughter, Lauren Marie who left us too early at 32 years on 7/9/2018. Laurens son, Alexander James. Toms only daughter, Linda Ann Bohannon 11/15/1955 of Thomasville, NC, had two sons, Mark Anthony, his son, Andrew and daughter, Autumn. Also her son, Asa, and his son, Ace.

Tom was a truck driver and retired from Hemingway Trucking, East Providence. But not before entering the National Truck Rodeo. Toms driving skills earned him first place in the New England straight job division. Tom went on to the national finals in California. Where Toms driving skills earned him second place nationally in the straight job division.

Tom also served his community as a member of the Knights of Colombus. As well as donating generously to many local causes, in his retirement. And was a lifelong Red Sox fan, and saw the Curse broken.

Thomas was known as Tom or Tommy to most. He lived a quiet, simple life and was a brave, strong and courageous man. Who was also kind, caring, compassionate, generous, friendly, loyal, honest and trustworthy. Truly one of a kind, and one of the last of a vanishing breed, of his generation.

At almost 94 years Tommy outlived most of his family, Marine buddies, friends and neighbors. And all those Tommy left behind will cherish his memory in their hearts. Tommy will be sorely missed. LOVE YOU DAD. And may JESUS welcome you and hold you in HIS LOVING ARMS.
